Tata Motors will officially announce the name of the production version of the Tata H5X Concept today. The company has also released a teaser image of the upcoming SUV.

Tata will officially announce the name of the Tata H5X based SUV today.

The teaser highlights the humanity line that runs along the lower edge of the grille. LED pilot lamps flanking the upper grille can be seen in the image as well. From the looks of it, the primary headlamps are likely to be positioned lower down in the bumper. The Tata SUV will be the first product of the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy.

A recent report claims that the production H5X will be christened the Tata Harrier. Along with the official name, Tata is expected to reveal a bit of the exterior design via additional teasers.

Engine duties will be handled by Fiat's 2.0 L Multijet II diesel engine. Reports suggest that there will be 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic transmissions on offer. No word on the availability of an AWD system, however.

The launch of the Tata Harrier (codename: Tata Q501) will take place in early 2019. The SUV will enter production towards the end of the current year at the FCA-Tata Motors manufacturing facility in Pimpri-Chinchwad near Pune.

When launched, the Tata Harrier will become the first product based off the Omega platform. Derived from Land Rover Discovery Sport's D8 underpinnings, this new platform will be the foundation of a 7-seat version that is expected to follow within 12 months.

The production version of the Tata H5X Concept will be uncovered in November 2018.

Tata Motors will invest around USD 1 billion in the Indian passenger vehicles market. There are 12 new products headed into the market. All upcoming Tata cars will be based off just two platforms - Alfa and Omega. Aside from the Tata Harrier, the Omega platform could underpin a sedan based on the Tata EVision Concept. The Alfa platform aka AMP will form the basis of smaller cars including a premium hatchback rivalling the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno.
