Tata Harrier with sunroof and automatic transmission spied
In addition to the BS-VI upgrade, the Tata Harrier will gain an automatic transmission and a sunroof in the coming months. Recently, one of its test mules equipped with both these upcoming options was spotted in Bangalore, courtesy Autocar India reader Kartikeya Upadhyay.
The Tata Harrier, launched in January this year, is well-kitted in terms of all features such as 8.8-inch Floating Island touchscreen infotainment system, 9-speaker JBL sound system with amplifier, semi-digital instrument cluster, and whatnot. However, it lacks a sunroof. An even major miss is the availability of an automatic transmission, which can have a considerable effect on the sales, especially in metro cities where expensive models like this have a higher demand. All the other C-SUVs sold in India are available with an automatic transmission. The automatic transmission of the Tata Harrier will be a 6-speed torque converter.
Reports say that Tata Motors plans to introduce even a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine in the Tata Harrier. It will be a 170 PS version of the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that is currently standard. Called 'Kryotec170', this version will have the same torque output - 350 Nm. However, it won't need a BS-VI upgrade as it will adhere to the stricter emission norms right from the get-go. The company has begun testing this engine in the C-SUV. The 7-seat version that has been given a provisional name of 'Buzzard' will employ this engine as standard.
