Tata Kite 5 sedan could be called Tata Viago or Tata Altigo - Report

Newest sub-4m sedan to launch in mid-2017.

According to sources of Motor Octane, the Tata Kite 5 sedan could be christened as the Tata Viago or Tata Altigo when it goes on sale next year, which rhyme with the car it's based on - the Tata Tiago. 'Go' is popular in Indian automotive branding, already patronized by Datsun and Ford.

The Kite 5 was scheduled to be launched in India during this festive season, but it has been postponed to 2017.

So far, it has been referred by its codename ' Kite 5', which became official at its unveil at the Auto Expo 2016 last February. It has been spotted testing on many occasions, even being photographed in production-spec guise undisguised. If the Kite 5 is priced along the lines of the Tiago, it could be the least expensive sedan in India, which is expected to raise attention among buyers of the Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze.

It will carryover most of the features of the Tata Tiago, such as a Eco and City drive modes, dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD and CSC, 8-speaker audio system, but additionally come with an Harman touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control and a boot capacity of 420 liters. Press shots have also revealed that the Kite 5 will have an all black interior, instead of the Tiago's dual tone black and ivory color combo.

The Kite 5 will exclusively come with Harman touchscreen infotainment system, auto climate control and 420-liter boot.

The Kite 5 will borrow the 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine and 1.05-litre Revotorq three-cylinder engine from the Tiago, which will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. A 5-speed AMT option is also in the works, which could be available at launch.
