Tata Kite 5 sedan to launch next month - Report

Was intended to launch last month, reportedly.

According to ET Auto, the Tata Kite 5 will launch for sale in India this March. It was planned to launch last month with the Tata Hexa, but the report's source said that the dealership network isn't equipped to cater to multiple launches in the same month.

The Kite 5 could serve as a long-term replacement to the Indigo eCS while targeting lower variants of the Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze.

At the Auto Expo last February, Tata Motors revealed the Tiago-based sedan's exterior and interior as well as confirmed to offer a class-leading boot capacity of 420 litres. Trial production of the Kite 5 also seems to be underway at the Sanand plant, judging by an earlier photo. If priced along the lines of the Tiago, the Kite 5 could be the least expensive sedan to launch this year.

Rumoured to be called the Tata Viago or Tata Altigo, the Kite 5 shares its front-end and interior with the Tata Tiago hatchback, while the rear-end features a unique stubby boot, wraparound taillamps, dual-spoke alloy wheels and a long LED strip for the third brake light. The Kite 5 will additionally receive auto climate control.

If priced in the same vein as the Tiago, the Tata Kite 5 could be India's cheapest sedan.

The engine lineup will include the 1.2L three-cylinder Revotron petrol and 1.05L Revotorq diesel engines from the Tiago. A 5-speed manual will be standard across the range, while a 5-speed AMT option is in the works for both the Kite 5 and Tiago.
