Tata Kite hatchback shows its side profile - Spied

To be positioned below the Bolt, will be revealed in Q2 2015.

Tata Motors will soon be replacing the well known Indica hatchback with an all new model, codenamed Kite. Following Tata's Horizonext strategy, the Kite will be positioned below the recently launched Bolt hatchback, and will also be offered in a compact sedan flavor (Indigo eCS replacement).

The Kite would be powered by a new 1.05L diesel engine.

These spyshots of the Kite give us a basic idea of the hatchback's dimensions as well as the muscular shoulders that define the new shape of the car. Other changes in tow are new rear bumpers, a redesigned bootlid, and a new set of taillights, unlike the Indica's Christmas-tree taillight.

Other reports suggest that the car's design will be influenced by the Tata MegaPixel concept, for a fresh yet modern look. The front end could sport wraparound headlights similar to the outgoing Vista, as well as a honeycomb grille.

Inside, the Tata Kite will come with an updated cabin with a white backlit instrument cluster, while reports have it that the top-end variant could feature a dual-din touchscreen unit.

The Kite will roll out from the Sanand plant in Gujarat.

Reportedly, the Kite will be powered by a new range of engines, which includes a 1.2-liter petrol unit (possibly a three-cylinder) and a 1.05-liter three-cylinder diesel unit making about 64 hp and 142 Nm of torque. While a 5-speed manual will be standard, with the growing demand for automatic gearboxes, it wouldn't be surprising if Tata equips the Kite with an AMT (automated manual transmission).
