Spied - Tata Kite hatchback snapped in detail
Tata's sub-Bolt hatchback, Kite (codename), was snapped testing by Indian Cars Bikes recently. The Kite, which is based on the Indica's platform, is expected to launch in the later part of next year, and will rival cars like the Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat.
Though the car will be based on the Indica, the exterior, interior and mechanicals such as the suspension, steering and NVH, will be completely redone keeping in mind the personal car buyer.
Expect the Kite to be powered by the new Revotron petrol engine, and the diesel variant could use Fiat's 1.3-liter Multijet motor. Both engines would be paired to 5-speed manual gearboxes, though Tata could also choose to offer their automated manual transmission (AMT) as well.
The Kite is reported to roll out from Tata's Sanand plant in Gujarat next year. The plant has a capacity of 250,000 units/annum and is underutilized at the moment. Reports say that the Kite will account for 150,000 units/annum at this plant.
The entry B segment accounts for around 30 percent of overall car sales in India, and Tata is represented in this segment with the outdated Indica, which has seen sales dwindling over the years. The 'taxi-car' image doesn't help the Indica get personal car buyers. The Kite should see better fortunes for Tata in this segment.
Competitors: Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat
Expected Price: INR 3.5-4.5 lakhs, ex-Showroom
