Tata Motors and Fiat to introduce a joint assembly line for SUVs - Report

INR 3000 Crores investment planned for the new assembly line.

According to Economic Times, Tata Motors and Fiat SpA are planning to introduce a new assembly line for producing future SUVs, which will most likely be set up at Fiat's Ranjangaon facility. This follows the marketing JV split up between the two companies that happened in 2013.

The Grand Cherokee will be among the first Jeep products to launch in India.

This move will come as no coincidence as Fiat is looking to introduce the Jeep marque in India and may start assembling the Jeep Grand Cherokee at the new assembly line, along with Tata's upcoming Q501 and Q502 premium SUVs.

Fiat will also introduce the iconic Jeep Wrangler into the country via the CBU route in 2015 (although it would be a niche product for the company) and an unnamed C-Segment SUV in 2016.

The Q501 and Q502 SUVs from Tata will reportedly draw technology from JLR (Jaguar Land Rover). It will sit above the current product range-toppers, the Tata Safari and Tata Aria.
