Tata Motors pips Honda to become the fourth biggest automaker in FY2018
Tata Motors had a significant growth in its PV business in India in FY2018. The company pipped Honda to become the fourth biggest automaker in the country.
Tata Motors’ PV sales in the domestic market increased by 22% from 1,53,151 in FY2017 to 1,87,321 in FY2018. During the same period (April 2017 - March 2018), Honda sold 1,70,026 vehicles. It grew by a marginal 8% (FY2017: 1,57,313). According to a report from The Economic Times, the main growth drivers for Tata Motors and Honda were the Tata Tiago and Tata Nexon and the Honda City and Honda WR-V respectively.
Tata Motors launched the Tata Nexon and introduced AMT option in the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor last fiscal. There were some special edition models too. Honda, on the other hand, had no new launches during this period, only a couple of special edition models. Still, out of the first six months (April-September 2017), it outsold Tata Motors, in April, July and August.
