Tata Safari Storme VariCOR 400 vs VariCOR 320 vs Mahindra Scorpio - Comparo
VariCOR 400 is the most powerful offering in the segment.
The Tata Safari Storme VariCOR 400 was recently launched as a top-end version of the Safari Storme, offering more power and torque. Here is a brief comparison of the two powertrains of the Safari Storme along with their competitor, the Mahindra Scorpio.

All three models here are powered by 2.2-litre engines, except for the entry-level variant of the Scorpio which gets a 2.5-litre engine. The 2.2-litre VariCOR 320 produces 150 PS at 4,000 rpm and 320 Nm at 1,700-2,700 rpm and it is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The VariCOR 400 version of the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine produces 156 PS at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm, and is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.
The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine on the Mahindra Scorpio produces 121 PS at 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm at 1,800-2,800 rpm. It gets a choice of a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
The VariCOR 400 version of the Tata Safari Storme accelerates from 0-60 km/h in 5.2 seconds while the VariCOR 320 takes 5.7 seconds to do the same. Similarly the VariCOR 400 sprints from 0-100 km/h in 12.8 seconds but the lower version takes 13.8 seconds.

The mileage of the Safari Storme VariCOR 400 is not available yet. The VariCOR 320 returns 14 km/l and the Scorpio delivers around 15.4 km/l.
