Tata Safari Storme VariCOR 400 tech specs leaked; gets 6MT - Report
Gets self adjusting clutch.
The technical specifications of the Tata Safari Storme VariCOR 400 have been leaked ahead of its expected launch in the coming days. The highlight of the new model is the new 6-speed manual transmission apart from the hike in peak torque.
The Safari Storme VariCOR 400 is powered by the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that does duty on the current Storme, but is retuned to produce 156 PS at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm. This version of engine will be offered only on the top-end 'VX' variant of the Safari Storme, while the lower trims will continue to be powered by the existing version of the motor that produces 150 PS and 320 Nm. These low-end versions will also continue to feature the 5-speed manual transmission but the upcoming VX trim with the VariCOR 400 engine will be offered with a new 6-speed gearbox.
The VariCOR 400 version of the Tata Safari Storme is claimed to accelerate from 0-60 km/h in 5.2 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 12.8 seconds, while the standard VariCOR version sprints from 0-60 km/h in 5.7 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 13.8 seconds.

The upgraded engine is equipped with the self adjusting clutch that was introduced on the 320 Nm engine when the facelifted Storme was launched in June this year. The clutch is said to be lighter and more durable than the regular type.
