Tata Tiago crosses the 50,000 unit sales milestone, 80% come from petrol variant

Has helped Tata increase passenger car market share.

Autocar Professional reports that sales of the Tata Tiago have crossed the 50,000 unit sales milestone since the car’s launch on April 6, 2016. This is based on internal calculations of its monthly sales figures.

The Tiago has helped increase Tata's passenger car market share to 6.41 percent (111,500 units).

Crossing 50,000 units in just under a year may not sound like a big feat in India, but it's an achievement for Tata Motors. It has helped increase Tata's passenger car market share to 6.41 percent (111,500 units) from 5.44 percent (91,648 units) in the April 2016 - January 2017 period. The Tiago is also one of Tata's best-selling models, the other being the Indica.

Of the 50,000 cars sold in India, 80 percent of the share is constituted by the petrol variant, highlighting the overall shift in demand to petrol power in the compact hatchback and sedan segment. With the introduction of the Tiago petrol AMT variant at INR 5.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) yesterday, the Tiago now appeals to a wider audience than before.

Priced at INR 3.24 Lakhs - INR 5.78 Lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi), the Tiago is perhaps one of the best value for money hatchbacks on sale in the market. It is available with the 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine producing 85 PS at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm and a 1.05-litre Revotorq three-cylinder diesel engine that develops 70 PS at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000 rpm.
