Tata Tiago NRG to launch on 12 September, Will rival Maruti Celerio X

Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Tiago NRG on 12 September 2018. Basically a crossover-styled version of the A2-segment hatchback, the new model will become a direct rival to the Maruti Celerio X.

The Tata Tiago NRG (Pronounced eNeRGy) will be marketed as a 'Toughroader'.

The Tata Tiago NRG will sport black plastic cladding all around the lower section of its body. The bumpers will have a dual-tone look and will carry faux scuff plates. The front grille will be flanked by a black trim instead of the chrome appliques that are available on the regular model. The roof, the ORVMs, the B-pillars and the roof rails will be finished in black colour in conjunction with the rest of the exterior.

Other highlights of the exterior include a black trim for the tailgate, smoked projector headlamps and dual-tone four-spoke alloy wheels. The Tiago NRG will have a ground clearance of 180 mm, 10 mm higher than that of the regular model.

On the inside, the Tata Tiago NRG will feature grey coloured upholstery with contrast orange stitching, silver and orange trim for the dashboard, a cooled glove compartment, driver's seat height adjustment, an 8-speaker Harman audio system and a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with 3D navigation.

The engine specifications will remain bog similar to those of the regular version. The NRG will be available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that outputs 84 bhp/115 Nm and a 1.1-litre turbocharged diesel motor that offers 69 bhp/140 Nm. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. AMT won't be on offer.

Unlike the Maruti Celerio X, which is a Petrol-only model, the Tiago NRG will be available in both petrol and Diesel engine variants.

With an average monthly sales of more than 7,548 units (Feb 2018 - July 2018), the Tiago is currently one the most popular cars in Tata Motors' line-up. The new Tiago NRG, which launches ahead of this year's festive season, should help the small car find some more takers. Earlier this month, it was reported that the company plans to produce the Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor in record volumes in October. The Sanand plant in Gujarat, where the Tiago and the Tigor are made, will hit 100% utilization in order to meet the higher demand for the Tiago, the Tigor, and the Tiago NRG around Diwali this year.
