Tata Tigor & Tiago to get performance variants through JT Special Vehicles - Report
Will be developed by JT Special Vehicles, Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives' new JV.
Yesterday, Tata Motors and automotive engineering company Jayem Automotive struck a 50:50 partnership to develop and produce street-legal performance vehicles based on Tata's current lineup. According to Autocar India, the Tata Tigor and Tata Tiago will be the first two cars to gain a performance variant.
Although not confirmed by Tata Motors, it's likely that the performance variants of the Tigor and Tiago will be based on their petrol variants, which are powered by a 1.2L 3-cyl Revotron unit. Power could be bumped by 5 hp - 10 hp to a maximum of 95 hp. Later, JT Special Vehicles will raise the output to 110 hp, which could be made possible with the help of a turbocharger.
Other than engine upgrades the performance variants will also have firmer suspension setups and lowered ground clearance for better stability at high speeds and around corners. To complement the performance upgrades, JT Special Vehicles will also work on tweaking the exterior and interior, with features like a spoiler, sportier grille, bumpers with larger intakes, larger alloy wheels, as well as sportier seats and interior finishing. Tata Motors showcased the Tigor with sportier bumpers and accessories at the Geneva Motor Show last month, hinting at what's in store.

The performance-spec cars will roll out of Jayem Automotives' facility in Coimbatore, rather than Tata's plant in Sanand, so we reckon that it will be built in small numbers. Autocar India estimates that the performance variants could cost anywhere between INR 60,000 or INR 1 Lakh more than the regular variant.
