Spied - Top end Tata Zest poses for the camera

The Tata Zest sub-4 metre sedan which is slated to be launched in August continues to be seen in the public, wearing the now familiar 'Zest' camouflage. The sedan, which made its premiere at the Auto Expo in January, was spotted in Pune city by Motorbash.com's reader Savio Tavadia.

The test mule appears to be a top end variant as it is equipped with projector headlamps, alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and foglamps which are embellished with LED daytime running lights. The interior is finished in a dual tone black and beige combination and this particular prototype has a manual transmission. Based on the Vista's platform, the Zest is a result of a comprehensive makeover of the hardware, exterior and the interior, while adhering to the 4 meter length.

The new compact sedan will be powered by the Revotron 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor which has power and torque outputs of 85 PS and 140 Nm respectively. The diesel engine is the familiar 1.3-litre Quadrajet (Fiat MultiJet) which delivers 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Tata have announced that the diesel version will be offered with a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

The Tata Zest will contest with fellow compact sedans such as the Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and the Maruti Swift Dzire, in a segment which grew by 27% last year despite the general slowdown in the industry.
