Top 5 upcoming four-wheelers from under INR 10 lakh : From Maruti S-Presso to Maruti Ertiga Cross

While the Indian auto industry is currently suffering from a serious slowdown, the scenario is all set to change with a slew of all new products from the biggest players of the market. Considering the fact that a majority of volumes come from the segments below INR 10 lakh mark, a majority of car manufacturers are investing a lot in this space. While some of them are creating all-new segments, a couple of them are set to recreate the benchmarks set up by their touted rivals.

Following is a list of the top five upcoming all-new four-wheelers from established players in the Indian automobile industry, which intend to uplift the Indian market once again with their brilliant packaging.

1. Maruti S-Presso

Maruti Suzuki might not be having much of an all-new action in the entry-level car category recently, apart from refurbishing the WagonR completely. However, the S-Presso is all set to change the fortunes of Maruti Suzuki as it will strengthen the entry-level lineup of the manufacturer. Touted to be positioned above the Celerio as the company’s all-new micro SUV, the Maruti S-Presso will be the second product after Vitara Brezza to be completely designed and engineered in India.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso will be the production version of the Future-S concept shown at Auto Expo 2018.

The Maruti S-Presso will be the production version of the Future-S concept from Auto Expo 2018. The Maruti S-Presso is expected to have a rounded and tall body and source its power from the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which powers the WagonR and Celerio. It will likely be available with a standard 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT.

2. Hyundai Grand i10

Ever since its launch, the Grand i10 has been one of the largest selling cars from Hyundai. It has been bringing in consistent volumes for Hyundai and instrumental in increasing its market share in India. However, the current generation Grand i10 has begun to show its age, which is why Hyundai is all set to bring an all-new Grand i10 in August.

The existing Hyundai Grand i10 will make for an all-new model with revamped looks in and out.

The next-gen Hyundai Grand i10 will have a familiar silhouette but the exterior and interior design will be entirely new, aimed at making it more youthful and hip compared to the outgoing model. It will likely be offered with BS-VI 1.2L petrol and BS-VI 1.2L diesel engines. 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual would be the transmission choices.

3. Renault Triber

After a long time, Renault is coming up with an all-new product for the Indian market - the Triber. The Renault Triber is only second to Datsun Go+ in the compact sub-four metre MPV category but has a much more modern and trendy take on the segment with its modern SUV inspired design, more features and greater safety. The biggest USP of the Renault Triber happens to be the flexible in-cabin space.

The Renault Triber is all set to redefine the sub-four-metre MPV segment.

The Renault Triber will also have segment-first features like projector headlamps with daytime running lamps and push-button start, apart from the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity. The 7-seat MPV will be powered by an upgraded version of the Kwid's 1.0-litre engine tuned to produce 72 PS of power and 96 Nm of torque.

4. Tata Altroz

Following the path of the Harrier, the Altroz is the second product which bears Tata Motor’s Impact 2.0 design philosophy, which has been very instrumental in renewing the perception of Tata Motors in the Indian automobile industry. The Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 challenger from Tata Motors is the production version of the 45X concept from Auto Expo 2018. It bears a very extrovert and game-changing design, which makes it one of the most striking models among the sub-10 INR lakh cars.

The Tata Altroz will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20.

Reports say that Tata Motors will offer the Altroz with a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine (85 PS/114 Nm), a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine (102 PS/140 Nm) and 91.25 PS 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard at launch. A dual-clutch automatic transmission could be introduced later.

5. Maruti Ertiga Cross

No, the Ertiga Cross is not the confirmed name of the upcoming new MPV from Maruti Suzuki. However, considering the fact that the new MUV will be based on the existing Ertiga and will have rugged design cues like sportier alloy wheels, side body cladding and roof rails, it is referred to as the Ertiga Cross for the time being until Maruti Suzuki announces the name.

Unlike the Ertiga, the Ertiga Cross will be sold through Nexa dealerships.

Unlike the Ertiga, the new Maruti MPV will have a 6-seat layout with captain seats in the second row. It will also have an all-black cabin with some mild changes and new feature introductions in and out to make it feel premium over the standard Ertiga. It will likely be offered with the same 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine as the Ciaz and Ertiga. The availability of the new 1.5-litre diesel engine remains uncertain. It will be sold through Nexa dealerships.
